PICKERING Town top-scorer Liam Salt has pledged his future to the Mill Lane club.

Salt, below, who has hit the back of the net 23 times for the NCEL premier division club this season, was being courted by the Pikes’ high-flying rivals Bridlington Town.

But after some hesitation he elected to stay with Jimmy Reid’s men.

“It was a tough decision for me, but I have been there for 10 years so it would have been hard to turn my back on them,” said Salt.

“The whole matter needed putting to bed because it has been going on for a while now, so I got in touch with Jimmy and told him that I was staying.

“There was a bit of extra money on the table from Brid, but you have to weigh things up.

“My mates Dean MacAuley, Joel Ramm, Dean Craig and Jamie Patterson are all at Pickering, so it would have been hard to leave them as well.

“There was that extra bit of travelling as well because Brid Town train at Hull, but overall, I’m just happy where I am.”

Salt, who is also the player-boss of Scarborough News Sunday League high-flyers Trafalgar, will be a member of the Pikes squad when they play host to Staveley in their league outing on Saturday.

After the recent wintry weather Town will be keen to return to action with a win.
