The President’s Weekend at North Cliff was a success for Dave Ellard and his wife Julie, with the organisation of the event and the weather all being perfect.

The President's Weekend got started on Friday when the ladies competition for the Presidents Putter was played in glorious sunshine.

Eleanor Paterson (25) made the most of the conditions to post a winning score of net 72 to hold off the challenge from a pack of ladies that included runner-up Christine Toulson (31), Janet Hall (28), Clare Ellard (5) and Elaine Tighe (23), who all finished on net 74.

On Saturday it was the turn of the juniors and mixed pairs, in the former category the young and diminutive Ayane Butterworth (26) showed a clean pair of heels to the rest of the field posting a marvellous score of 45 points to claim the Junior Putter.

Second place went to Marco Masucci (13) with a good return of 38 points and he was followed home in third spot by brother Nico Masucci (20) with 35 points.

In the Mixed Competition the husband and wife pairing of Peter (18) and Patcharin (23) Harris claimed the win after a countback, edging out David Butterfield (5) and Clare Ellard (5), both pairs having posted a net 67.

Sunday was the day for the gentlemen to shine and the brightest man on the day proved to be Colin Goodall (18), who handed in a net 66 to claim the Gents Presidents Putter.

Goodall kept a cool head and played steadily throughout his round to just hold off Shaun Lofthouse (24), who also posted a net 66 but lost out on the countback partly due to a competition handicap limit adjustment, he did however have the consolation of taking the first prize for Division Three.

Martin Laidler (4) birdied the last hole to give himself first place in Division One with a net 69, James Blenkinsopp (6) also carded a net 69, but stumbled at the last with a three-putt and Steve Bennett (5) was another on net 69.

Division Two was won by Dave Foster (15) with a net 68 that just edged out Mark Walker (11) on the count back.

Simon Boddy continued his very successful and consistent season by making the best the best gross score of the day, a two-under par gross 70.

Nearest the pin prizes went to Max Stansfield, Adam Jackson and Johnny Kemp.

The weekend was rounded off by a very well supported presentation night when the president thanked all of the staff, those who had helped in the running of the events and the members for supporting him.

The East Riding Union of Golf Clubs matchplay competition has reached the semi-final stage and North Cliff’s Simon Boddy is still battling for the title.

Simon played really well on his home course in the quarter final to dispose of last years’ champion Leigh Gawley of Hornsea and is now eagerly awaiting news of who his semi-final opponent will be and the neutral course on which the match will be played.

South Cliff’s ladies managed to play their second July Stableford prior to playing restrictions were introduced.

The recent excellent form of Ewa Graczyk (16) shows no sign of deserting her as once again she romped to victory in division one, this time by seven clear shots, however, as her handicap reduces once again this time down to 15, times will get harder.
