We put in a really strong team performance on Saturday.
The guys really did knuckle down and worked hard during the week and that really pleased me, and it showed on the Saturday too.
I really felt we came together as a unit during the week, we had a good week of training and then they put in 80 minutes of hard graft.
We had better shape, more leaders out there on the field and looked dangerous any time our backs got on the ball.
It wasn’t perfect, but was a giant leap in the right direction for us and we seem to be getting better and better as the new guys settle in and we get fitter.
Matty Jones has made a huge difference to us, on and off the field, and having Nino Cutino back on Saturday was a huge boost.
It was great to see Alex Rowley and Aaron Wilson make their first team debuts on Saturday, they both had great games and I expect them to feature for us going forward.
Alex goes travelling soon I believe, but he’ll be a good player to bring back in once he returns to Scarborough.
Add to that young Tom Burton grabbing two wonderful tries and things are looking very positive.
You also can’t fault the commitment of Joe Marshall and Drew Govier, both of them came back from university to play for us and it’s that level of team spirit and camaraderie that will help us this season.
We are in cup action this weekend at home to Middlesbrough - and we’ll be expecting a tough test from them.
They’re currently sixth in Durham Northumberland One, and have had a few indifferent performances.
I expect our guys to have too much for them if we perform, and that’s what we will be working towards this week.
