Paul claims boating honours in Festival match

Paul Hamer coasted to victory in the Yorkshire Boating Championships at the Scarborough Angling Festival.

Local angler Hamer bagged a superb 49lb, with runner-up Steve Maskery snapping up 33lb and third-placed Tony Mountford 26lb.

Visitors Gary Pye was the winner of the roving competition for the Hospital Challenge Bowl, his 15-2-12 bag securing the honours.

Matt Hillaby secured second place with 11-15-6.

In Thursday’s event, the ET Peel Trophy heaviest single fish match, Brian Harland’s 5lb 4oz catch earned him the silverware.
