Scarboro’ juniors star in county win

Nine Scarborough schoolchildren represented North Yorkshire at the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Sportshall Athletics Finals at the Bonus Arena in Hull.

The most successful county team was the girls under-11 side, who became the first North Yorkshire team to win this category.

Both Scarborough competitors made a valuable contribution with a total of three individual event wins, and their participation in the relay races.

Katy Tomlinson was first in the triple jump and speed bounce and a member of the winning hurdles relay race.

Daisy Willis (pictured right) was the winner of the javelin, and fifth in the vertical jump.

The next highest scoring team was the under-11 boys, who were second, included a win for Owen Hodgkinson in the target throw.

Jack Tomlinson and Jack Tout contributed to the team score with third and seventh respectively in the speed bounce, and their participation in the relay races.

In the under-13 girls team event, Isobel Louth and Chloe Calvert-Best were two of the top scorers for the team which finished in third place.

Isobel won the speed bounce and Chloe was third in the triple jump and the second fastest in the six-lap relay.

The under-13 boys team were also placed third, and the highest scorer was Christian Mummert, who was third in the six-lap race.

The girls under-15 team highest North Yorkshire scorer was Asha Wright, who was joint fourth in both the two-lap race and the speed bounce.
