Gary Snaith and Mark Thomas were the two winners on the first day of the Scarborough Angling Festival.

Thomas won the Bob Yarker Trophy roving competition with a 21 fish bag for 41lb 12oz 8drm, with Matt Hillaby second on 33lb 11oz 6drm.

Steve I’Anson netted third spot with 32-14-4, while Heaviest Single Fish also went to Hillaby with 8lb 11oz, most fish coming from under the cliff at Bempton.

Whitby angler Snaith snapped up pole position in the Jack Brown Trophy boating competition, his bag of 32lb securing the honours ahead of Steve Pratt’s 26lb 8oz.
