Attending the gala were teams from 44 clubs from all over the country, from Kingfishers to Dover and even a competitor from New Jersey swimming club in the USA.

For swimmers Holly Franklin and Marcus Moore it was the first experience of Open Meet competitions with Holly qualifying for the Yorkshire Championship in 50m freestyle.

At the end of the morning session, Kingfishers competed in three relay events; boys 10 years and under 200m freestyle, girls 10 years and under 200m freestyle and girls 12 years and under 200m medley.

The girls 10 years and under team won silver in their event missing gold by less than half second.

It was a fantastic race by Caitlin Wilson, Sophie Boddy, Emily McDiarmid and Holly Franklin.

This relay team, all nine-year-old girls, are the stars of the future.

With all of these young swimmers performing so well on a big occasion they are ready to join up with the older swimmers and means Kingfishers has a good squad heading to the Yorkshire Championships in October.
