Mulgrave defeated visitors Ganton by 106 runs in the only Readers Scarborough Beckett Cricket League match to be completed this weekend.

The heavy rain experienced this week caused havoc with the second round of Beckett fixtures, but Mulgrave managed to get their division B game played, posting 182-7, all-rounder Craig Thompson top-scoring with 62 in his first game since leaving ailing premier division side Staithes.

James Newton added 37 and Simon Kipling chipped in with an unbeaten 28 while James Richardson continued his strong start to the season with fine figures of 4-39.

Alistair Limb scored 51 in reply for Ganton, but his teammates let him down as they only offered 25 more runs between them as the visitors slumped to 76 all out in the face of fine bowling from new recruit Thompson, who bagged 5-27 to cap a cracking debut.

In the premier division the match between hosts Heslerton and Staxton saw the visitors put into bat.

Opener James Armstrong was caught behind by Sam Triffitt from Adam Spaven’s bowling for nine after five overs. That proved the final ball as the heavens opened with the Staxton total on 16-1,
