A host of teams and sports people are up for the awards, which spread from the under-11 category through to service to sport.

The presentations will get underway at 7.15pm, following on from the Scarborough & District Sports Council’s AGM.

Scarborough Athletic skipper and current player of the year Tony Hackworth will be among those presenting the awards on the night.

He will be joined by mayor Cllr Helen Mallory, Dave Watson of North Yorkshire Sport, as well as Scarborough News editor Ed Asquith and sports editor Andy Bloomfield.

Sian Harrison and Hugh Larkin from sponsors Yorkshire Coast College will also be there to join the presentations.

The highly successful Scarborough Gymnastics Academy will be entertaining the audience with a display at the half-way stage.

Sports development officer Matt Hewison is looking forward to a great night.

He said: “This is our chance to recognise local sport and all of its achievements.

“It is about showcasing the talent that we have in the area and giving something back.

“Because of our link with the Scarborough News this year we have had a lot more nominations through.

“We have the core nominations that we usually get, but they have been coming in from all over the place, which is excellent.

“When you look at the amount that has been achieved by youngsters, sportsmen, sportswomen and teams across the Scarborough area, it is very impressive.”
