Scarborough Goalball Club hosted their very first national goalball tournament on home ground on Saturday and managed to win the silver medal after a fine effort.

There was a great turn out of over a hundred people on the day, some who were watching the Paralympics sport for the first time, and all were very well entertained.

The Panthers got off to a fantastic start by beating York 11-1, Glasgow 10-0 and West Yorkshire 11-1.

Dan Hudson, Taylor Vasey, Rio Vasey and Charlie Woodhead were all on great form scoring and defending well and rarely putting a foot wrong.

Then the team had to face Kirklees who went into an early lead going 3-0 up.

Scarborough managed to dig deep and pulled the game back to 3-3 at half-time.

Kirklees scored two quick goals at the start of the second half.

Scarborough, under pressure, gave away four costly penalties which ended the game 8–6 to Kirklees, whose defending was just too strong for Scarborough on the day.

Scarborough went on to beat Moor End 8-2 with Curtis Vasey making his debut playing for Scarborough’s intermediate team, and brilliantly saving a penalty.

The team needed Kirklees to lose against York to take the gold medal but settled for silver when Kirklees won 5 -3.
