IS this a UFO or is it a light on a plane hovering about Whitby Abbey?
It was spotted in Whitby last Thursday by three friends from London who captured a picture of this strange orange light in the sky.
Sam Pisano told the Whitby Gazette he and his friends were walking around the Abbey when they spotted it.
He said: "
It must've been between 9pm and 10pm and we turned around and looked up to see a strange red ball of light - the only way I can describe it is that it was like one of those Amaretto or Biscotti papers you set alight and rise upwards - only this moved horizontally, quite fast, then slowed down to a stop and eventually faded and disappeared.
"This all took a few minutes and being a staunch non-believer of UFOs I kept saying it must be a plane, helicopter, fire lantern, but it just didn't add up.
"We even thought it might be something to do with the comet or meteor shower that was going on - but we'd seen that the night before and it looked completely different."
