Theatre: Second Stage

Ten plays developed by the Stephen Joseph Theatre are being given a showcase at Second Stage.

They include four pieces by Scarborough writers Neil Arnott, Jackie Daly, Paul Elsam and Sue Wilkinson.

All of the readings will be directed and performed by associate director Lotte Wakeham, with actors including Ian Crowe, Sarah Pearman, Heather Stoney, Mat Watkinson and Christopher York.

The plays are:

Warrior Queens by Jackie Daly: a former winner of the Kenneth Branagh Award for New Drama Writing,

Razing Cane by Juliet Gilkes Romero: an award-winning playwright and television journalist

Mugs by Steve Attridge: freelance writer and director Steve has written for TV shows including Holby City.

Wilfred in Love by Paul Elsam: Paul has worked as a performer in theatre, radio, film and television.

Payback by Neil Arnott: a Scarborian who has written murder-mysteries for the past 25 years. He won the Yorkshire Script Factor competition in 2017

The End of the Pier Show by Sue Wilkinson: a journalist on The Scarborough News for the past 20 years.

Time and Tide by James McDermott: James was part of last year’s Royal Court writers’ programme.

Change by Roy Gould: Roy has worked in television on shows ranging from The Kenny Everett Show to Hi-de-Hi!

My Mother’s Sister by Kate Brower: Kate’s play Double Feature was part of Screenplay, a quartet of plays set in and performed in McCarthy in 2014.

you ain’t cuz you not by Ben Snyder: Ben’s plays have been produced at Center Stage New York.
