A HUGE £250,000 scheme is under way in Filey to give the town’s gas supply a fresh spark.
Contractors from Northern Gas Networks are working in a number of streets to replace old cast iron gas mains with plastic pipes.
The work is expected to be completed by the end of March.
Pipes are being replaced across the town, with contractors currently working in Mitford Street, John Street and Belle Vue Street and have also been in Queen Street.
Improvements will also be carried out in Chapel Street and Chapel Terrace, Church Street, Ebenezer Terrace, Grove Road, Ravine Top, Spring Road, Muston Road, Rutlands Street, St Johns Avenue, The Crescent and West Avenue.
A spokesperson said: “This investment will ensure the town has a reliable gas network for decades to come.
“We have deliberately timed the work to avoid the Easter holidays - an important trading period for town centre businesses.
“We are doing everything possible to minimise inconvenience during this essential work, and will continue to keep local businesses informed of our progress.”
