A GROUP of intrepid walkers put their best feet forward for charity during a sponsored walk.

Regulars from The Star, in Mitford Street, donned their boots to trek from Flamborough Lighthouse back to the town to help raise £2,021 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

However, their cause was further boosted by a Starfest fun day event - featuring live bands, a tombola, barbeque and bouncy castle - which helped to make £3,145 to raise the overall total to £5,166.

Lynn Barr, landlady of the pub, said she was delighted with the amount raised and thrilled to have helped the charity which holds poignant significance.

She said: “It was a really good day and the walk was one of the best we have done with everyone enjoying themselves.

“We decided to help the charity because of a friend of ours, Chris Wing, who was supported by the Macmillan nurses.

“He was a local lad who grew up in Filey and it was nice to help the charity which helped him.”
