A DOG owner has been fined after being found guilty of allowing her pet to foul a Filey caravan park.
Margaret Atkinson, of Colne, near Burnley, was fined £200 by Scarborough magistrates’ for two offences of dog fouling at Filey Brigg Camping and Caravan Park in September last year.
In a letter to the court, Mrs Atkinson said she was unaware her pet had fouled on the site and said she always ensured any mess was cleaned up.
She added: “I am a responsible dog owner and have plastic bags available at all times.
“I did not know they had done it, but if I did it would have been cleaned up.”
Steve Pogson, Scarborough Council’s health and community safety manager, said the authority would remain vigilant on cracking down on owners who break the law.
He added: “Our dog wardens help ensure this borough is a clean and safe place for residents and visitors.
“There really is no excuse for ignoring legislation.
“We will continue to take action to pursue dog owners who break the law.
“I hope these prosecutions act as a deterrent to the irresponsible minority.”
After fining Mrs Atkinson, magistrates also ordered her to pay £60 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
