A RETIRED Hunmanby headteacher jailed for having nearly 9,000 “depraved” child pornographic images has been branded a danger to children by police.

Terry Ladlow, 73, of Hamerton Road, was sentenced to six months in prison after admitting 24 separate charges for offences between 2005 and last year.

Ladlow, well-known for his teaching role and as a former church organist at St Oswald’s Church, in Filey, was also placed on the sex offenders’ register and handed an indefinite sexual offences prevention order.

He told police he had viewed the images to pray for the victims involved.

However, Detective Constable Nigel Pepper, from North Yorkshire Police’s Protecting Vulnerable Persons Unit, said: “Ladlow spent a number of years amassing many thousands of indecent images of children.

“The collection can only be described as disturbing and depraved.

“The defence that he prayed for the young victims and that he felt he was helping victims of abuse, is clearly utter nonsense.

“He is a danger to children and particularly boys.

“Without people like him there would not be a market for such degrading material and children would not be subjected to such horrendous abuse.”

Ladlow moved to Hunmanby from Wetwang in 2004 and was also known for his film-making in the area.
