A FILEY holiday village is continuing to experience unprecedented demand after recording huge visitor figures.
The Bay development saw bookings rise by 115 per cent in January compared to the same period last year.
Forecasters have now predicted a bumper summer holiday season.
The facility, built on the former Butlins holiday camp, has already sold more than 200 cottages and apartments on the site which also features a £3 million leisure complex.
Wayne Low, director of Essential Vivendi which is behind the project, said the news pointed towards a major boost for Filey’s tourist economy.
He said: “The Bay has definitely confirmed its position as the premier holiday destination of its kind in the UK – it has been a long haul to get to where we are today but it’s certainly been worth the hard work.
“Not only is the holiday village itself proving a huge success with visitors but the economy of Filey is also benefiting as more people choose to spend their annual holidays and short breaks here.
“Building work continues at pace, in fact, we cannot build them fast enough to meet demand, and by the end of 2011 we expect to have reached the 300 mark.”
