Favourite Things this week is written by members of the magazine club at George Pindar School who are Aaron Lister, Ceejay Williams, Macy Burn, Hazel Morley and Charlotte Mason.

I really like Peasholm Park. Once, my dog jumped into the lake and I thought it was really funny so I always
remember that when I’m there. Also, I like to go on the paddle boats because you get to see the whole park, which is beautiful.
You can get a closer look at the naval warfare boats when you row up to them. I think they are a great design and it’s interesting to see what the ships from the wars were like. Lots of ducks and geese swim by too.
I like also Scarborough Castle because it is so beautiful and has a very interesting past. I like to watch the sea from up there. The views are stunning.
Hazel Morley, Year 8
My favourite part of our area is the village of Thornton-le-Dale. It’s such a wonderful and peaceful place. Every time I visit with my Grandma, we go down to the duck pond and feed the ducks (one of the shops sells duck food so we don’t feed them stale bread because it makes them ill). I really enjoy walking around the village, especially when the festivals are around, like the scarecrow competition or turning on the Christmas lights. The village is also very picturesque, with a beck running through it, thatched cottage, and much more to see and do. Plus, it’s
really close to Dalby Forest, so after a long day of
cycling through the forest and exploring the wilderness, you can get an ice-cream in Thornton-le-Dale.
Charlotte Mason, Year 9
My favourite place in Scarborough is by far Cayton Bay. Because it’s so small, I feel that people don’t see the beauty in it. It has such a dramatic, historic past.
Also, it now has lifeguards so is perfect for families with children who want to
play in the sea safely.
You can get hot food
such as hotdogs, burgers, noodles and soup from Lucy’s Beach Shack. In summer, they have ice-creams and slushes.
There’s even a surf shack, where you can rent surf boards and equipment and take surfing lessons. It’s the perfect place.
Whether it’s warm and
sunny or everything is literally frozen solid, it is still exactly where I’d go. It beats the beaches that Scarborough is known for.
Ceejay Williams, Year 7
My favourite place is
Alpamare water park
because it has some great slides and it’s really fun!
I like to visit it in the summer when it’s warmer and busier – there’s a great atmosphere. My favourite part is the outdoor pool. It has iodine in the water which has healing powers and it’s 35 degrees so even if you visit in the cooler months you don’t freeze!
Macy Burn, Year 8
My favourite thing about Scarborough is the beach because I love the sea. I think that it’s really calming to step into the water and feel it
lapping around my ankles, then step back on to the
Picking up and collecting shells is also very calming as I love their different textures, shapes and colours. If you go to the rock pools, you can also find a wide variety of sea life. I could spend all day staring at the dancing anemones, bright limpets that are like buttons waiting to be pushed, and the energetic and skittish crabs.
