Filey has been named as one of the UK’s top 10 staycation destinations in a new survey.
The research, released today by Sykes Holiday Cottages, placed the town in third place – just behind Whitby and Yarmouth.
Eight in 10 people across Yorkshire are planning to holiday closer to home over the rest of this year, compared to 58% last year, the study found.
Almost half (48%) of Yorkshire respondents said the UK has enough beautiful destinations, and there’s no need to holiday elsewhere.
Key features on the staycation wishlist include beach views (43%), a good wi-fi connection (40%) and a nearby pub (32%).
Graham Donoghue, chief executive of Sykes Holiday Cottages, said: “It’s impressive that so many of Yorkshire’s seaside towns have made the list of most sought-after staycation destinations and it’s a great vote of confidence in the region’s holiday hospitality.
“This staycation boom is also good news for the region economically too – local tourism is a great income boost for business owners across Yorkshire and the Humber.”
