Former sea cadets ahoy!

FILEY Sea Cadets have made another appeal to former members to contact them in a bid to set up an Old Cadet Association.

Members would be charged a nominal annual fee in return for a membership card and a chance to meet up once a year on the closest weekend to the anniversary of the opening of the unit in Southdene on September 20, 1986.

Anyone interested should contact former commanding officer Eddie Temple by emailing or writing to Filey Sea Cadets Unit Headquarters, Southdene, Filey YO14 9BB.

In the meantime, the unit has reported it is getting close to its fund-raising target for fixing its leaky roof.

A spokeswoman said: “The roof was always the first part of a far larger refurbishment of the unit. So on top of the Old Cadets getting together once a year the aim was that, through any money paid, we would use it to help in the unit’s refurbishment.

“Hopefully it will snowball as there must be literally hundreds and hundreds of people out there in the local community and farther afield who came to Sea Cadets.”
