Gary gets into the swing of shop life

FILEY Stores, in Scarborough Road, has been taken over by former Filey golf professional Gary Hutchinson, who moved into the retail business in partnership with Dennis Frankish, a 16-handicap member of the West Avenue club.

Mr Hutchinson, who lives in Hunmanby, bought the property through the Leeds office of estate agents Christie and Co for an undisclosed sum.

A spokesman for the estate agents said: “The vendors, Mr and Mrs Myers, have built up an excellent reputation in the area, but after four years in their ownership, they decided to sell so they could retire.”

Mr Hutchinson, a former European Tour player who has retained his PGA card, is planning to continue playing on the North Region and Yorkshire PGA circuits and also hopes to teach at Flamborough Head and at the nine-hole course attached to the Raven Hall Hotel at Ravenscar.

Mr Hutchinson, who succeeded Dave England at Filey Golf Club, played on the European Tour in 1982 and 1983 when he was attached to Moortown, and worked in Germany for four years.
