The team at RSPB Bempton Cliffs will be taking part in this year’s National Whale and Dolphin Watch Week and is hoping residents will join the fins fun.
Visitors to the nature reserve will have the chance to monitor the marine mammals or simply learn a little bit more about them.
The event, which takes place between Saturday 28 July and Sunday 5 August, will highlight the amazing diversity of whales, dolphins and porpoises found in UK coastal waters, and provide an important source of essential research data.
Expert volunteers will be stationed on the viewpoints at the reserve searching the sea for marine mammals.
Sarah Aitken, visitor experience manager at RSPB Bempton, said: “You don’t need to be an expert or have any previous experience, just patience and a keen eye.
“We run this event every year because it’s a great way to celebrate the diversity of our marine wildlife. The data we collect is used to investigate which species we have in UK coastal waters, their distribution and to highlight marine conservation.
“I’d encourage anyone to get involved.”
