Along the route of the Tour de Yorkshire all the villages look colourful and clean.
People have pitched in to show us in the best light for the cameras. The county and borough councils have spent thousands on resurfacing, tidying and filling potholes.
Indeed I cannot recall seeing the streets and gutters of Snainton being cleaned by council employees in the time I’ve lived here.
But what about the roads that the route misses? Try riding a bike between Brompton and Sherburn or from Snainton to Yedingham and the A64. You’ll probably end up in A&E!
The mantra of austerity can no longer be repeated if there is a magic money tree for the tour!
