Man suffers serious head injuries in Scarborough assault

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Scarborough which left a man with serious head injuries.

On Saturday at about 11pm, the victim was with his girlfriend outside the Royal Hotel, St Nicholas Street, having a cigarette, when they were approached by a man.

The suspect assaulted the victim before making off on foot and subsequently being arrested by officers.

The victim was initially admitted to Scarborough Hospital but has since been transferred to Hull Royal Infirmary with serious head injuries.

PC Mike Holden, of Scarborough Police, said: "I am urging any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time, and may have seen what happened, to come forward."
