A Speeton-based company landed a prestigious national award during a ceremony at Aston Villa Football Club in Birmingham this month.

BookBorne, which covers the Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough areas, won Best Independent Representative within Direct Sales category at the Networking Mummies UK Ltd Recognition National Business Awards.

BookBorne is a small business that promotes childhood reading and helps people find books that their children love while helping them to learn and develop life long skills.

The company is run by Alison and Chris Burrows who are passionate about childhood literacy and feel that no child should miss out on a life building skill.

Alison said: “To me what I do is very rewarding anyway, but to be recognised for that is amazing.”

Chris said: “We are over the moon and it just shows that a mum of six can raise children and also run a successful business. Alison was completely shocked after winning.

“As well as fundraising we also help parents, grandparents and family members find suitable books for their children based on reading ability and interests. Anything we can do to help children love reading, we’ll do it.”
