A Filey club is ‘pushing the boat out’ by offering residents the chance to try a number of water-based activities free of charge.
Filey Sailing Club is inviting people to try sailing, windsurfing and kayaking for free as part of RYA’s Push the Boat Out 2016.
Push the Boat Out is a nine-day nationwide event that will see hundreds of sailing clubs across the country open their gates for locals to come and have a go at sailing and windsurfing, starting on Saturday (14 May).
Filey Sailing Club is just one of the many sailing clubs and centres across the country taking part in the Push the Boat Out campaign, and members are hoping that locals will come along and enjoy the different activities on offer.
The event will see hundreds of people taking part in the sport at club open days or taster sessions.
Starting at 10am at the sailing club, there will be a whole host of activities taking place both on and off the water.
Water activities will include dinghy sailing, windsurfing and kayaking.
There will be refreshments available in the clubhouse and a BBQ on the decking area.
Everyone is welcome to come and have a go for free.
There are no age restrictions, just turn up on the day between 10am and 4pm, and explore what’s on offer.
Please bring a change of clothes and a towel with you.
James Whitehead, Filey Sailing Club commodore, said: “We are delighted to be taking part in the RYA Push the Boat Out.
“We are inviting the local community to come down to the club, have a go at sailing, windsurfing and kayaking, see what the club has to offer and get involved. Who knows if you visit you might just get hooked!”
RYA sport development manager Duncan Truswell said: “Push the Boat Out provides the perfect opportunity for you to discover your local sailing venue, like-minded people, have a go at the sport and find out how much fun it is.”
