DOG waste bins across Hunmanby are causing a real stink and could hit the village’s tourist industry, according to one worried councillor.
Cllr Nick Harvey said bins combining litter and dog waste were not being emptied regularly enough which was creating a bad smell for residents.
Cllr Harvey said the problem had escalated during the last two years and has even suggested the parish council take over the emptying of overflowing Scarborough Council bins to ease the situation.
He said: “Residents who live near benches with bins beside them have told me that anyone who sits down often promptly moves away.
“This creates a poor impression of our village, especially as we have managed to get the Yorkshire Wolds Cycle route diverted through Reighton, Hunmanby Gap and Hunmanby.
“It is bringing in extra trade, but we do not want to see this lost by inappropriate sitting of combined dog and litter bins next to public benches.
“I have suggested all bins are emptied by the village caretaker as I believe this would enable a surplus for Hunmanby Parish to re-invest in the village and provide a more flexible and improved bin emptying service.”
