A MAJOR 300 home development in Filey has moved another step closer to fruition.
The £45 million Mill Meadows estate, in Muston Road, could start this year after Scarborough Council sold a four-acre plot of land to developers Coast and Country.
The authority’s cabinet this week met to sanction the sale, which bosses have said will see the money accrued pumped back into future council corporate schemes.
A report from Nicholas Edwards, the authority’s head of finance and asset management, said: “The council’s land is currently let under an agricultural tenancy and is effectively land locked.
“The land currently produces a limited income for the council or less than £400 per annum and being land locked means any independent development would prove complex and incur significant abnormal expenditure.
“Disposal of the land will raise a capital receipt which can be used to provide funds for projects.”
The development will see 60 homes for rent and 60 for shared ownership, with 180 properties on the open market.
