FILEY’S links to royalty have been uncovered in a new book.
The Fortune Hunter: A German Prince in Regency England, reveals the German Prince Pückler-Muskau visited the town in 1827.
He wrote: “I rode along the coast to Filey where there is a celebrated bridge of rocks built into the sea by the hand of nature.
“The sea was blue and covered with sails, at Filey I took a guide.
“We passed along many strangely-shaped rocks, and came at length to this bridge, which is in fact only a broad reef, running out about three quarters of a mile into the sea.
“The detached blocks were thrown about in fantastic groups.
“After satisfying my curiosity I scrambled back, and took my way through a pleasant field to the nearest inn.”
