Pub raises cash in memory of Chris

A FILEY man who died from a brain tumour last year was remembered as the landlord and landlady of a local pub presented a cheque to Macmillan Nurses in his memory.

Former Merchant Navy seaman Chris Wing, pictured inset, died after losing his four-year fight against cancer at the age of just 33.

John and Lynn Barr, of the Star in Mitford Street, organised the pub's second event in his memory during Filey Festival and raised 1,869.

Mrs Barr said: "The weather didn't help us, but everyone who came was more than generous and the bands were awesome. It was a great day.

"Chris Wing was a friend of ours, and when he passed away last year we decided to raise money for the nurses because of him. This year we want to show that we're remembering him.

"Also, John's mum is going through treatment at the moment, so it's that close to us. It's something that touches everyone, and we'd love to make it an annual event."

Mrs Barr thanked everyone who came to the Starfest for their support.
