Local charity Support for Carers is appealing to local people to ‘Share your Sunshine’ this summer as part of a campaign for new volunteers to help them combat loneliness and isolation among carers and older people living alone in the Scarborough borough.

Support for Carers works hard to tackle this problem by providing a free volunteer visiting service for carers and older people living on their own who would benefit from some regular company and a friendly face visiting them on a regular basis

The charity’s Community Development Worker, Sarah Lally-Marley, is keen to encourage local people to consider using a small amount of their spare time to make a big difference to the lives of those at risk of loneliness and isolation.

Sarah will be holding drop-in sessions in local community libraries over the next couple of weeks.

You can see her at the following venues:

Monday May 22 – Newby &Scalby Community Library, 10am to midday

Tuesday May 23 – Derwent Valley Bridge Community Library, 10am to noon

Wednesday May 24 – Filey Library, 10am to noon

Tuesday May 30 – Eastfield Community Library, 10am to noon.

If you would like to join the charity’s friendly team of volunteers you can contact them directly on 01723 364808 or visit their website for more information.
