A WINTER walking challenge will be going ahead on Tuesday, January 19 – weather permitting!
The second Filey Flyer Challenge Walk has been organised by the East Yorkshire Group of the Long Distance Walkers Association, which held a marshals' walk last Saturday.
Co-ordinator John Davis said: "Walking through the snow was crunchily pleasant when the sun shone, but battling back to Filey in the face of an easterly bringing rain and snow off the North Sea dampened spirits somewhat.
"However, long-distance walkers are a hardy lot and, providing they can get there, nearly 200 have already entered."
The panoramic route includes parts of the Cleveland, Wolds and Centenary Ways linked by footpaths, tracks and some private land.
In return for an entry fee, participants will get refreshments en route, a hot meal at the finish and a badge and certificate.
The coble badge icon is based on a stained glass window created by Kevin Bosomworth of Filey and displayed in his shop in Hope Street.
For more information about the walk, or to request an entry form, write to Filey Flyer, 27 Main St, North Frodingham, East Yorkshire YO25 8JX, call (01262) 488649 or email eyldwa_ email@example.com.
The walk is one of a duo of "East Coast classics" including the Scarborough Rock. The two walks are staged in alternate years, so the next Filey Flyer will not be held until 2012.
