Letter: Plastics: it’s a role for us all

We are hoping to get leading organisations and individuals together to make the campaign more effective.
We are hoping to get leading organisations and individuals together to make the campaign more effective.

I welcome your paper’s campaign on cutting down single-use plastics and reducing marine litter, and I congratulate all those who are working towards this end.

Following my successful motion on this issue at January’s meeting, Scarborough Council is investigating how it can cut single-use plastics in its own operations and how we can help the community reduce their use too.

We are hoping to get leading organisations and individuals together to make the campaign more effective, so I am collecting a list ready for sending invitations to a meeting.

I already know about the following: the Marine Conservation Society, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, Whitby Naturalists, Surfers Against Sewage, Greenpeace, the Green Party, South Bay

Traders, the Sea Swim Group and Mandy Hillier.

If any group with which I am not yet in touch, which is working on this issue, would like to contact me at Cllr.Dilys.Cluer@scarborough.gov.uk and I will see if they can be included.
