Letter: Raincliffe Wood Enterprise has lost my respect ... farewell

I feel sad over what has become of Raincliffe Wood Community Enterprise.
I feel sad over what has become of Raincliffe Wood Community Enterprise.

I am now leaving Scarborough within the few weeks to take on new things and I would just like to say thank you to all who have supported me over the years in events such as The Secret Wood, and when Raincliffe Wood Community Enterprise was set up.

Scarborough and Raincliffe has been part of my life for the past 13 years but I only come for a weekend.

I feel sad over what has become of Raincliffe Wood Community Enterprise, a long way from what it was set up for, to create apprenticeships and work for local employment in woodland management.

But the board never listened to one thing I put before it; in the first years it was all Hill Holt Wood and woodland trust.

I put all most 18 months into looking at how if Raincliffe was taking on an asset transfer, it was going to pay its way, and produce the apprenticeships and local employment, but not one asked me, the founder member, how I seen this working.

I don’t have respect for the woodland trust or in the board. Some say Raincliffe Wood Community Enterprise has treated me wrongly, I can live with that.

Only last week a letter from the chairman told me that if I didn’t stop criticising the board I would be put off as a member.

I myself obtained a £15,000 grant to set up Raincliffe Wood Community Enterprise and timber was there as a secondary income.

In my view, Raincliffe Wood Community Enterprise has lost the respect of the community and I feel there should be a full and open public meeting, chaired by someone outside of Raincliffe Wood Community Enterprise, Woodland Trust, and Hill Holt Wood.
