The Readers Scarborough Beckett Cricket League Representative XI, led by Staxton’s Linden Gray, beat the Central Huddersfield League by 40 runs at North Marine Road in their annual clash.
The Beckett League batted first with James Bryant of Wykeham and Flamborough’s Luke Dixon opening the innings.
The pair put on 67 for the first wicket before Dixon fell for a well compiled 28 in the 17th over.
Ebberston’s Alex Machen joined Bryant and the pair continued in positive mood, combining excellent running with crashing blows, with Bryant reaching his half century.
Machen fell for 24 and Bryant soon followed for an excellent 67 which included 10 fours and one six.
Good contributions from Cayton’s Alex Townsend, who made 22, skipper Gray and Mulgrave’s Kieran Noble kept the momentum going and despite a flurry of late wickets the innings closed on 194-8 after their 40 overs.
Seamer’s Adam Morris and Craig Thompson of Mulgrave opened up for the hosts and the pace duo set about the Huddersfield line up, seeing them slump to 38-5, with Morris taking 3-21 and Thompson 2-27.
Skipper Gray then rung the changes and the introduction of Ganton seamer Liam Cousins and Heslerton spinner Dan Jeminson (1-18) paid dividends, with further wickets reducing the visitors to 66-7 after 21 overs.
Huddersfield staged a recovery, but tight bowling from Reece Milner of Ebberston and Townsend kept the Beckett League in control.
Skipper Gray and Cousins (2-16) finished the job off with nine balls remaining, Huddersfield falling 40 runs short of their target.
