CAYTON were crowned champions of the fourth annual Scalby Junior six-a -side tournament at Carr Lane on Sunday.
Cayton breezed through group a, beating hosts Scalby and Ebberston, who finished as best runner-up to join other group winners Sewerby and Scarborough.
Sewerby dumped Wykeham and Duncombe Park out of group B, while Scarborough saw off the challenge of Hunmanby and Staxton in group C.
Ebberston fell short of their target of 73 for victory in their semi-final after Joe Crowther, 23, and Will Donald, 17, had earlier helped Scarborough to 72-1.
Wingrove retired on 25 and Neil Eddon collated 17, but Ebberston still fell agonisingly short by just five runs, as Scarborough advanced to the final.
Cayton were the other side to make the final after they came through their semi-final against Sewerby, the excellent Ryan Woodhead making 16, along with Jack Wood, 16, and Josh Venner, 14, who helped Cayton to 66-3, while Sewerby could only muster 42-1.
Scarborough met Cayton in a pulsating final that ebbed and flowed, with Scarborough batting first.
Donald hit 26 to help Scarborough to 78-1, but Cayton’s Woodhead had other ideas, blasting 30 in no time to help his side to a chance of victory.
The stage was set for a tense last over, but Scarborough’s Sam Spivey bowled three wides to hand Cayton the win.
