LEADERS Ebberston 2nds suffered a shock nine-wicket home defeat at the hands of Fylingdales 2nds - with an unbeaten 102 from Theo Clarke the main difference between the two sides.

The hosts may have regretted their rather circumspect batting, only losing three wickets on their way to posting 154, skipper Chris Beal hitting 35 and fellow stalwart Ashley Winspear adding 33. The other notable scorers were the fourth-wicket pairing of youngster James Gunn, 33no, and Jonny Metcalfe, 24no.

Clarke then steered the visitors to victory with his imperious knock of 102 not out.

Ebberston remain top of the table, mainly due to the fact that second-placed Heslerton 2nds’ game at struggling Whitby 3rds was clalled off due to a wet pitch.

Ravenscar took full advantage of the top two losing points, claiming a 63-run win at Muston.

Dinesh Swamiwathan was the star man once again for Ravenscar, top-scoring with 34 in his side’s 11-9 and then bagging 4-17.

Wil Warwick also chipped in with 26 for the visitors, while Dan Baldry took 3-21 for Muston.

Mat Smith also took 4-8 as the hosts crumbled to 48 all out.

Oriel also kept their promotion challenge alive with a seven-wicket win against Forge Valley 3rds.

Slow bowlers Scott Wardman and Josh McNeil teamed up to skittle Valley for 74 runs, Tim Farrant’s 28 the only highlight for the Ayton side. Wardman weighed in with 4-23 while young spinner McNeil snapped up 3-24.

Matthew Oxtoby’s 45 paved the way for Oriel to secure a home victory.

Brompton 2nds are still harbouring hopes of pushing for promotion after their rapid eight-wicket success at home Sherburn 2nds - who are still searching for their first win of the season.

Ross Triffitt secured superb figures of 5-9 and Tom Wilson 3-21 as the visitors were shot out for just 49 runs.

Sherburn earned a bowling point by taking two wickets, but an unbeaten 25 by Dave Nichols wrapped up a simple win.
