Great Habton boosted their chances of overtaking leaders Flamborough to the Derwent Valley League division A title with an eight-wicket win at nine-man Forge Valley 3rds.

Will Curtis’ medium-pacers saw him claim 5-26 as Valley were bowled out for 69 in spite of a plucky 33 from Stephen B Smith.

Curtis then hit an unbeaten 33 to wrap up the win, skipper John Lumley having hit 27.

Flamborough’s game at home to Muston was rained off early on with the visitors having reached 8-1 from six overs.

Eight-man Snainton hung on for a four-run win at home to Nawton Grange 2nds in a thrilling division B clash.

Mike Eyre hit 55 and Johnathan Maw 52 as the hosts were diksmissed for 162, Matt Durrant taking 3-46.

Grange must have fancied their chances of victory when Terry Ellis, 54, Neil Ward, 29, and George Bentley, 20no, got going, but Maw’s 4-43 dismissed them for 158.

Rain stopped play with Filey 2nds in a great position in their game at second-placed Wold Newton 2nds.

The home side were struggling on 71-7 chasing Filey’s 135-9 when the elements halted play.

Scalby 3rds kept their division C promotion hopes alive with an eight-wicket win at home to Wykeham 3rds.

Skipper Jack Boddy led by example with a fine 57, hard-hitting Stephen Shannon, 44, and James Scott, 30no, also impressing as Scalby reached a winning 157-2.

Paul Rennard’s 46 had been the main feature of Wykeham’s 156 all out.

Basement club Ganton 2nds earned a 76-run home win against Thornton Dale 2nds.

Robbie Milner struck 59 and John Sarup 31 as the hosts posted a moderate 132-4, but Joel Sarup, 4-27, and Danny Farrow, 3-20, then skittled Dale for 56.

Second-placed Muston 2nds were denied the chance to make ground on leaders Cayton 3rds when rain stopped play in their game at home to Valley Bar Nomads with the hosts strong favourites to win.

The Nomads posted 123-6, Jordan Wakeham unbeaten on 53, and Muston were well-placed on 74-2, Pete Roberts hitting 38, but the rain stopped them from completing their win.

Two games were conceded by teams, with Whitby 3rds unable to raise a team for their division A game at home to Lockton and division C side Forge Valley 4ths pulling out on the morning of their game at Ravenscar 2nds in division C, which means the Ayton club pay an extra £20, on top of the normal fine of £20 to the league, for giving the hosts less than 24 hours notice of being unable to raise a team.
