A powerful 89 from Craig Sanderson helped Sherburn into pole position in division B of the AndyHire Evening Cricket League as they eased to a 49-run home win against basement club Filey.

Sanderson top-scored in Sherburn’s 178-5, Dan Stocks chipping in with 27 for the villagers.

Ben Briggs’ 65 kept Filey in with a chance but the away team fell short on 129-8.

Sherburn were able to move into top spot after former leaders Ganton lost out by a single run in a thriller at promotion rivals Scalby.

Dave Holborn scored a superb 76 for the home side as they made 176-3, Tom Gregory adding a useful 38.

Ian Cousins, who had made 129 in his previous game (the league’s highest score of the season so far), was dismissed for 34 on this occasion, but fine knocks from Rob Middlewood (28), Rob Gretton (36) and Sam Carver (37no) kept Ganton in the hunt, but they fell agonisingly short on 175-5.

Cayton eased their relegation fears with a six-wicket home success against Flixton B, who have now been dragged into the battle to stay up.

Tom Ward and fellow youngster Tom Sixsmith hit 31 and 27 as Cayton reached a winning 113-4 in pursuit of Flixton’s 112 all out.

Joel Boyer’s 5-15 was the main driving force behind Cayton’s win.

The top four sides in division A all claimed home wins to maintain the tense battle for the league crown.

Heslerton remain in top spot after an easy nine-wicket win against bottom-placed club Cloughton.

Chris Malthouse, 22, was the only away batsman to impress as they buckled to 78 all out, Anthony Stones the top home bowler with 4-24.

Tom Milner’s unbeaten 42, allied to 27 from stalwart Alan Watson, saw Heslerton safely home.

Second-placed Ebberston remain just a point behind the leaders after a 28-run win triumph against Seamer.

Neil Eddon, 42, and seasoned campaigner Mike Horsley, 38no, guided the home side to 143-6.

Eddie Craggs then snapped up 4-20 as the visitors were skittled for 115, Josh McNeil hitting 32 and Aussie Brandon Tyzzer 29.

Staxton are a point further back in third after a seven-wicket win at home to Forge Valley.

Spinner Linden Gray bagged 3-27 and Andy Holtby 3-20 as Valley made 118-8, Sean Pinder top-scoring with 29 and Gary Gibson contributing 20.

New recruit Jodie Robson smashed his way to 67 to make an instant impact on his new teammates, Dan Bulman adding 24 as Staxton knocked off the required runs for the loss of just three wickets.

Flixton strolled to a nine-wicket win at home to Wykeham.

Ezra Pashby weighed in with a defiant unbeaten 60 for Wykeham as they batted first and reached 144-4, Kev Thompson scoring 33.

Openers Rich Malthouse, 57no, and Will Hunter, 52, laid the foundations for a nine-wicket win, and after Hunter’s dismissal, Harry Walmsley, 28no, teamed up with Malthouse to complete the win.

Valley Bar Nomads claimed their first win of the season in division C with a shock six-wicket home success against promotion-chasing Muston.

Ben Atkinson took 3-39 as the visitors slumped to 77 all out, then Colin Best struck 36 and Andy Butterfield 25 as Nomads eased home.

The only away team to win on Thursday was Ravenscar, the promotion hopefuls cruising to a 62-run victory at basement club Wykeham C.

Shaun Bayes hammered an unbeaten 69 as the visitors posted 154-3, Tom Noble adding 37 and Freddie Barker unbeaten on 24.

Barker capped a great all-rounbd evening with the night’sbest figures of 5-14 as Wykeham slumped to 92 all out, James Fox their only batsman to shine with 26.
