Two Scarborough sides were in action at the Driffield Rec Gala football tournament on Sunday.
Mark Barber Soccer School’s Elite Squad and Scalby Juniors Under-Nines were pitted against the likes of Westella & Willerby, Beverley Whitestar and Driffield Pumas.
Barber’s Elite Squad lost in the semi-final against the eventual winners, Westella after winning their opening matches 6-0, 4-0 and 2-1.
Barber said: “We played some great stuff so we’re happy that they transferred our philosophy into fixtures.
“We were beaten by a team that was good but play in the top league in Hull, which was an advantage as we play tournaments and fixtures when we get them.”
Scalby suffered a 2-1 loss against Barber’s side in the quarter-finals after two wins and a defeat in the group stage.
Defender Louis Gledhill-Battye was the star man for manager Maciej Kapczynski’s side.
He netted the winner in the last minute of their 1-0 opening win against Hawthorne and then also grabbed the decisive goal as The Otters beat Beverley Whitestar 1-0.
Scalby lost 1-0 to Driffield Pumas then 2-1 to the Barber Elite Squad.
Barber’s side led 2-0 before the profilic Gledhill-Battye got them back in the game, but it was too little too late.
Kapczysnki thanked sponsors Charlie Battye Development and Bubble Bop and Rafal Painting & Decorating for their new kits.
