Scarborough Athletic chairman Dave Holland has piled praise on the club’s fans after an amazing start to their Boro Till I Die fundraising campaign.
Athletic’s poor season has hit the club’s financial coffers, forcing the board to issue the appeal to raise £25,000.
Already supporters have chipped in with over £10,000, leaving Holland and his fellow board members delighted.
He said: “We have been humbled and amazed by the generosity and good will of the fans.
“So many people have responded positively to the appeal.
“The amount of supporters to come up and hand over their cash, cheques and other donations on match days have been astounding.”
Holland revealed that there have been some interesting stories behind these donations as well.
“One man said that he thought that the fans had become complacent and he felt that they needed to do more,” Holland added.
“He gave us £200, which was overwhelming. We hope with this momentum that the donations can continue to come in and move us closer to our target.
“It isn’t just about that appeal though, the gap to the figure is narrowing for other reasons.
“People have been buying bricks at the new ground, using the club’s shop and also the attendances have improved in recent games, all of which makes a difference.
“I would just like to thank everyone for their support, the response has been magnificent.”
Holland, his fellow board members and the management duo of Steve Kittrick and Chris Bolder will be there to discuss this and other matters at Friday’s fans’ forum.
It will take place at the Corporation Club on Dean Road, starting at 7.30pm.
Holland added: “The fans’ forum will give supporters the chance to ask questions about any aspect of the club they attach importance to.
“We will also have Steve and Chris there on the night to answer any questions about the team.
“It will give supporters the opportunity to see why the board appointed Steve as the club’s manager.”
Anyone who is unable to attend can submit questions to email@example.com.
Meanwhile, Norweigen fan Are Guttelvik has kindly funded this weekend’s supporters bus to Witton Albion. It will leave the station at 10am and anybody travelling can make an optional donation of £5.
