Last weekend saw Scarborough Ladies under-15s edge a step closer to a possible league title win.
Ian Firth’s team won their home game with Copmanthorpe 3-1, and went five points clear of their opponents, who sit second in the City of York Girls League.
In a hard-fought encounter, Boro raced into a 2-0 lead at half-time thanks to goals from Anna O’Connor and Ellie Mae Stewart.
The visitors pulled a goal back to reduce the arrears, but top-scorer Leah Dobson netted from outside the area in the second half.
It was Dobson’s 71st goal for the club in just 49 appearances over the past three seasons.
The under-13s lost 2-0 at home to Brooklyn, while the depleted under-14s fought bravely against Bishopthorpe, but ultimately went down 5-0.
Credit must go to midfielder Ellie Smith, who played the full game in goal in the absense of regular keeper Denby Gillett.
The under-11s continued their progress as a non-competitive side by taking on York RI at home.
On Sunday, the senior team travelled to Cleveland Juniors in the North Riding Women’s League.
The team was down to the bare bones, but the 11 players on show put in a fabulous performance to win 4-1.
This gave them their first back-to-back wins of the season after a 3-0 win last week at home to Catterick.
Beth Taylor got on the scoresheet again to make it 1-0 after 10 minutes.
Despite the home side equalising early in the second half, player of the match Beth Hosie got her side on top again with a great header from Chloe Marshall’s cross.
Striker Chloe Bennett scored the goal she had been threatening in the previous three games to make it 3-1, and Marshall rounded off the win with her ninth goal of the season late on.
The side moved up to eighth with the win.
This weekend only the under-15s and under-14s are in action, travelling to Kirkbymoorside and Bishopthorpe respectively.
