Scarborough Athletic will be handed a hefty double boost over the next few weeks.

Boss Rudy Funk is expecting to have striker Ollie Ryan and defender Sam Denton available for the last month of the season.

Ryan hit two goals in five starts at the beginning of the season before picking up a foot injury, and Denton was in commanding form following his arrival in October.

His stint in the first team was ended by a leg injury during the 2-1 victory against Bridlington Town.

Funk said: “Sam is expecting to be back by the beginning of April, while Ollie could be back in the next fortnight.

“It is great news for us because one is a player that knows where the goal is and the other is an expert at keeping the ball out of the net.

“They are a hugely experienced pair, who could do a job from the bench, or could offer some respite in a busy time for the first team.”

Boro return to action on Saturday when they take the lengthy trip to Heanor Town in the NCEL Premier.

Heanor have been in a mixed run of form since boss Glenn Kirkwood left for Mickleover and Jordan Hall took over as manager.

Their last run-out saw the Derbyshire side grab a 2-1 win on the road at Thackley.

Funk added: “Heanor have changed managers and they have had some good results since.

“We are just looking forward to getting out there and obviously we will be looking for the three points.”

Defender Matty Plummer limped out of Saturday’s 5-0 victory against Nostell, but Funk has underlined that he will be available for Saturday’s game.

Funk added: “Matty has been struggling with a bit of a thigh problem, so we decided to give him a rest.

“With so many games coming up we don’t want to risk picking up serious injuries, especially when we have some very talented lads on the bench.”
