Former Scarborough FC man Lee Whittington went through a mixture of emotions after hitting the net against Scarborough Athletic on Saturday.
Whittington was one of the scorers as Workop Parramore held Boro 4-4 in the Nottinghamshire sunshine.
Obviously strikers love to hit the back of the net, but, having played for Scarborough FC in the club’s last season, Whittington does have a soft spot for the town and the fans.
He said: “It was a funny feeling scoring against Scarborough, but I’m a Worksop player now so obviously that is what I’m here to do.
“I learnt a lot with Scarborough FC, I was a young lad at the time, but it was a great experience.
“I thought I did alright there, scoring a few goals, I’d have probably got a few more if I wasn’t injured.
“It was frustrating because I picked up a metatarsal injury, which ruled me out for six months and finished my season.
“It would have been nice to be more involved in the final few months of the season, I wanted to help to keep them up, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.
“It is a shame what has happened because Scarborough FC was such a big club.
“I’ve been to Scarborough since to see the McCain Stadium and it is so sad to see it in such a state.
“Hopefully things will work out for Scarborough Athletic and they’ll be able to get back playing in the town again.
Whittington is now hoping to find his feet at Worksop after failing to settle at a number of clubs since the demise of Scarborough FC.
He did enjoy a successful time at Harrogate Town, but since then he has moved to s atring of clubs including Matlock, Hucknall and Maltby Main.
The attacker said: “After I left Scarborough I went to Harrogate Town with Denny Ingram and Tony Hackworth, we just missed out on the play-offs in that season.
Since then I’ve struggled to get settled with a club, hopefully that will be the case with Worksop.
“I haven’t been enjoying my football for a few years, but that has changed since I arrived here.
“Worksop create a lot of chances for the strikers, which is obviously good for me, I’m really enjoying my football once again.”
