STEVE KITTRICK: Looking forward to a big cup final

When we initially sat down to discuss the plan for the rest of the season we had two main goals.

The first was to keep this club in the division and we have secured that by a comfortable 12 points.

Results may not have been the best recently, but we have been hit by a number of injuries and other problems.

The loss of Tom Corner to Tadcaster as well as the fact that Nathan Peat and other players have been out through injury has left us relying on 13 or 14 players at times.

It has been interesting what we have had to go through on a week to week basis.

It takes me back about 10 years, but it isn’t a backwards step for me.

You should never forget where you came from, I started in the West Yorkshire League and I am very humble about my beginnings.

I was fortunate enough to manage in the Conference and I know that the club, in the future, will have plans of getting back up there.

Our other target was to have some success in the Doodson Sports Trophy and we have also hit that goal by getting to tomorrow’s final.

I am fairly confident going into the game because I know the lads have a point to prove.

This is now the club’s biggest game of the season and it is up to Chris Bolder and myself to get the lads up for it.

It shouldn’t take a lot of doing though because this is a massive 90 minutes of football for them.

Our supporters can be huge in this as well.

The lads will realise the expectations on their shoulders, but many of them have never played in a cup final before in their lives, especially the younger ones.

I know they are all very excited though and I hope that excitement makes them rise to this big occasion.

We have played well in this competition since I have been in here, I thought we were excellent against Ilkeston in the last round.

This is all about putting a smile on the faces of everyone at the club, I really hope that is the case after the game on Friday night.
