Scarborough News Sunday League Division Two leaders Trafalgar Reserves were forced to dig deep for a 5-3 home win against struggling Barrowcliff Reserves.

Danny Glendinning opened the scoring for the hosts, but a fine finish at the far post from Richard Curtis levelled the scores.

Tom Scales struck to make it 2-1 at the break but the visitors equalised again thanks to a cracking strike from Paul Oldroyd with his weaker right foot.

Martyn Ferrey restored Traf’s lead, then a Luke Jones finish and a second effort from Glendinning secured the points for Mikey Barker’s team, who can wrap up the title with a draw at rivals FILO on Sunday.

Stu Chadwick headed in the third goal for Barrowcliff from close range after Sam Mahoney had chipped the Traf keeper.

While Barker refused to single out any players in a below-par display, left-winger Chadwick, midfielder Oldroyd and centre-back Konrad Sygitowicz all stood out for Barrowcliff.

Eric Hall smashed in four goals as Newlands Reserves hammered Scarborough Campus 11-1 to move into fourth spot.

Callum Myers also scored a hat-trick while Nathan Barber chipped in with a brace, man of the match Ryan Link and Aiden McCallion also hitting a goal apiece. Hall scored the pick of the goals, chipping the Campus keeper from 20 yards.

Kieran Grzesiowski scored for the visitors, with Shaun Evans their man of the match.

Roscoes Bar were forced to graft for their 1-0 win at Alma.

Matty Rowley scored the crucial goal with a 25-yard half-volley which went in off the post in the second half, with left-winger Harry Harman their man of the match.

Alma boss Phil Clothier said: “This result was hard to take. I felt we deserved something from the game.

“Everyone played their socks off we just couldn’t get the goal, I am really pleased with all the lads. It would have been easier to just run the season down but they showed they still want to win games. Everyone deserved to share the man of match award.”
