THE promotion race in division three looks set to go down to the wire after the top two couldn’t be seperated.

Heslerton played hosts to table-toppers Riskers and took the lead when defender Danny Philps headed into the top corner after 30 minutes.

Johny McGough’s men maintained their lead until the break and went ahead until the 55th minute when prolific Riskers striker Luke Delve managed to squeeze a header into the bottom corner.

Both sides had further chances to take a massive win in the promotion race, but Lee Drydale saw his header kept out by a wonderful save from the Riskers keeper.

Alan McCarten and Kelvin McGough were the stand-out players for Heslerton.

Simon Coupland had a superb afternoon as he managed to find the net five times for Westover Wasps Reserves, who romped to an 8-0 win over Falsgrave Pirates.

Dave Gaddass’ men were in fine form as they moved themselves further away from the teams at the bottom with their convincing win.

Coupland was the star man for his side, after moving up front from his usual midfield position, he put the Pirates defenders to the sword.

He was joined on the score-sheet by Chris Hannam, Duncan McDermott, who headed in, and Mikey Pickering, while new signing Joe Hodgson played well once again at centre-back.

Whitby RUFC took their chances to win 5-1 at Ayton Reserves, who battled valiantly and had their own chances to find the back of the net.

Adam Steele headed the Whitby side in front from a corner before player-boss Mark Jones doubled their lead with a volley from the edge of the box.

Striker Damon Craig registered to make it 3-0 before Ian Rhucroft’s goal made it 4-0 to the visitors.

Danny Bywater hit back for Mark Plumpton’s men, who were wasteful in front of goal.

But Whitby rounded off the scoring when Ben Hoggarth tapped home for 5-1.

Left wing-back Ian Kilpatrick was Whitby’s man of the match, while Steven Frederikson played well for Ayton.

FC Filey travelled to rock-bottom Ganton and won 6-2, taking their visitors goals against tally to 108 in the process.

Filey still have an outside chance of sealing promotion, but they will be relying on results from other games going their win, and they will need to pick up wins in their games in hand on current leaders Riskers.
