Trafalgar claimed instant revenge for last weekend's Senior Cup final loss to West Pier with a 3-2 win at Seamer today in the Kenward Cup final.
Traf started strongly in the final, with Wayne Aziz heading wide of the target in the 11th minute and the impressive James Wardle also making a smart clearance for Pier.
Pier's first real attack of the game saw Traf keeper Liam Giles push out a cross-shot after fine work down the right flank by Martin Cooper on 15 minutes.
Six minutes a miscued pass from Giles to his defence allowed Jamie Bradshaw to slot the ball wide of the keeper and put Pier in front.
Joel Ramm had the ideal chance to level on 27 minutes but skied his shot from six yards after fine work from Aziz down the right flank.
Three minutes later Giles pulled off a great save at the feet of Pier striker Rob Speight after another Cooper cross, and with Pier coming into the game more Traf reverted from their starting formation of 4-33 to 4-4-2, Lewis Taylor dropping back from a striking role to a central midfield berth and this proved to be a turning point in the match as the Pickering Town ace started to have a bigger influence on the game as the second half worse on.
Billy Logan went close with two free-kicks in the opening three minutes of the second half as Traf's midfield began to take control of the game, and it was no surprise when they levelled the scores in the 51st minute, fine play down the left resulting in right-winger George Rose shooting past Pier keeper Jon Hyde, his shot rolling in off the post.
Traf then brought Sean Exley on for Liam Vasey and Pier introduced Joe Tiffany for Ryan Baldry, with another PIer switch seeing Luke Midgley come on for Cameron Dobson.
Ramm lost his marker from a cross but hit his shot over the bar from a few yards out at an acute angle in the 67th minute, but less than 60 seconds later the Traf pressure paid off as Gaz Thomas broke from his centre-back role and ran into the Pier half before setting Taylor free and his low 25-yard shot flew beyond the grasp of Jon Hyde.
Traf looked to have wrapped up the win in the 75th minute when Logan slotted home after more good work from Taylor, both these players playing a major part in the improved second-half display.
The two-goal lead did not last long though as Bradshaw's ferocious shot into the roof of the net from 20 yards revived Pier's hopes, but despite a few late efforts from Joe Gallagher and Tiffany Traf managed to hold onto their deserved victory.
Aziz put in a great shift for Traf, while Taylor and Logan also played superbly, especially after the interval, and took their chances well, while for Pier, Wardle was outstanding at left-back and Bradshaw was a constant menace on the left flank, taking both his chances very well.
