Gladstone Road won the Drax Cup Year 3/4 regional qualifier at North Marine Road and will now represent the district in the county final next month at Dunnington.

Organiser Mike Tildsley said: “It was a cracking day for cricket and the Scarborough Cricket Club pitch was in great condition for us, the ground staff had done a superb job of preparing the playing surface.

“Gladstone Road won the round-robin event, having beaten their closest rivals Seamer & Irton in one of the group games, which was a very close match, and they now go to the Drax Cup final, staged at Dunnington Cricket Club, on Wednesday June 26.

“The top two teams from the North Yorkshire finals then go on to the finals at Headingley.”

Tildsley added: “There was some excellent cricket played with many promising young players on display, it is great to see them gettiing the chance to play on a quality ground such as Scarborough CC.

“The Year 3/4 pupils don’t always get as many chances to participate at such venues in competitions so it was nice to see them enjoying themselves

“I would like to thank Scarborough CC for letting us stage these games.”
