Scarborough martial arts instructor Andy Desa was victorious at the UK Martial Arts Show, organised by the biggest martial arts magazine in, Europe Martial Arts Illustrated.
Desa took on Hayden Linley, who had previously held world titles, but had been out for three years through injury.
The Scarborough man had also had four years off fighting because of injuries sustained fighting as an infantry soldier.
Desa said: “It’s been a hard few years but I’ve set the dojo up and I couldn’t of written this win any better if you told me to write down what I would love to happen.
“He (Hayden) stepped in with a super man and I side-stepped and round housed him in the face.
“He was falling to the canvas, but fair play to him he got up again.”
